Artist Paris Johansen has developed a glass studio practice in the isolation of the Torbay Glass Studio on the southern coast of Western Australia. Her work has evolved from a painting and mixed media background which has extended into kiln formed glass, ranging from architectural, sculptural and installation works to functional objects and jewellery.

The works are strongly influenced by the physical elements of the environment in texture, mood and colour. Her life time experiences are part of the imagery within her pieces, from the effects of the southern forties roaring over the coastal landscape around her home to the dry, delicate and evocative imagery of the desert and relationship of man and country built over the years working as a remote area nurse in the outback regions of Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Paris's practice is constantly evolving, crossing many mediums, but the elements of the natural processes of evolution, emotional response to country and the Australian culture remains constant.
